MANILA - The Philippine Embassy in Madrid, Spain confirmed reports that several Filipinos have been arrested in drug busts.
Consul Susana Mendiola said Filipino nationals were among members of drug smuggling groups.
The Department of Foreign Affairs earlier said the embassy is coordinating with Spanish authorities after reports came out 20 Filipinos have been arrested for drug trafficking.
Agence France-Presse reported that 42 people, including the Filipinos, were arrested in drug raids in Madrid, Barcelona, and Murcia. The report said police also recovered eight kilos (17.6 pounds) of highly addictive drug and 15,000 ($21,000) in cash.
DFA spokesman Charles Jose said the embassy is working to establish the identities of the Filipinos.
Jose also appealed to overseas Filipinos to avoid getting involved in illegal activities. With a report from ANC
