MANILA, Philippines - It's the sense of national pride which will attract more tourists to the Philippines, said Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr.

"You see, to build a nation, one can only begin with the more basic ingredients. It comes from a simple idea of 'national pride'," said Jimenez who delivered his message during the closing ceremonies of the 2nd Global Summit of Filipinos in the Diaspora.

Jimenez explained that its the person' s self esteem and confidence which will make people 'sit up and take notice''.

"They will praise you for your hard work. They will praise you for your perseverance, for your intelligence, for your discipline. But if you are confident in yourself, they will follow you to the Philippines," he said.

During the global summit, the Department of Tourism also presented an audio visual presentation for its slogan "Its more fun in the Philippines."

"When we claim that life is more conceptual, it's more fun in the Philippines, it is an invitation to the world and even more importantly, a reminder to each other everywhere we are that we share more than language. We share a common view of our word."

"We remind each other of the things that matter most: family, friendship and God," he said.

The DOT secretary also made an appeal to the overseas Filipinos present during the summit.

"Have I got a job for you. I want you to go into the social networking and begin to connect with everyone else in the world. I urge you, come home more often. I have a feeling a lot of people will follow you here," he said.
