ALKHOBAR, Saudi Arabia – The sister of Ernesto “Jhigs” Nuguid, Jr., an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who accidentally killed two Saudi nationals in AlHassa, Eastern Saudi, is asking help from kababayans to raise fund for her brother’s blood money.

Jessica Nuguid, the elder sister of Jhigs, who works as a pharmacy technician in Jeddah, has been busy looking for donations to pay off the 600,000 Riyals (SR.300,000 for each Saudi) or P7 million in blood money so her brother could be set free.

According to her, Jhigs was driving to AlHassa, some 170 km away from Al-Khobar, on November 25, 2011 to visit a family member. He lost control of his car when the right-front tire exploded. Unfortunately, the two Saudis who were replacing the flat tire of their car on the road side were hit by Jhigs’ car and died.

She maintains that it was an accident and her brother did not mean it. Jhigs, who works as electrician in Al-Khobar, is now held in Al-Khobar Main Jail.

Their family and friends launched “Barya mo para sa kalayaan ko” campaign on Facebook to raise awareness and to get more support and donations.

Jessica is hoping and praying that the Philippine Government and the Saudi Government will help her brother the way they helped Dondon Lanuza, the OFW convicted of killing a Saudi nation.
