MANILA – The Mayor and City Council of Arezzo in Italy honored Filipina waitress Jielyn "Giulia" Rodriguez for her honesty after she returned a wallet containing €1,200 (approximately P73,834) which she found on her way home from work two months ago.

Rodriguez was on her bike when she discovered the wallet on the street last December 20, 2013. Days after turning over the wallet to local police, Rodriguez received a call from them informing her of the owner's gratitude and intent to reward her for her honesty.

After that incident, Rodriguez became a local celebrity in the town having been featured in several local newspapers in Arezzo.

The OFW was formally commended by City Mayor Giuseppe Fanfani and the City Council Members in the presence of Vice Counsul Kristine Margaret Malang of the Philippine Embassy in Rome on February 13.

The 31-year-old OFW was born in Manila and finished secondary education at the Ramon Magsaysay High School. She is married to Jojo Rodriguez and they have a son.

She became an OFW at the age of 19 after joining her mother who has been working in Arezzo. She started out in a gold manufacturing factory and then as waitress in a local Chinese restaurant.

She is presently employed as a waitress in Anticafonte, a famous Tuscan restaurant in Arezzo.
