MANILA, Philippines – The Vatican is now busy preparing for the selection process for the next Pope following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI recently.
Romeo Velos, chaplain of Sentro Pilipino in Rome.
The new Pope will be chosen through a vote among qualified cardinals.
“2/3 of the votes, plus 1 vote..so it will be around 71 to 78 cardinals to vote for you to be elected,” said Velos.
There are 208 cardinals from 68 countries but only those under the age of 80 are eligible to vote.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle was among the names being floated as the next Pope.
Fr. Velos said that it is expected that the next Pope will be selected before Easter Sunday.
“Most likely Eastern Sunday may bago na tayong Santo Papa,” he said. Report from Jocelyn Ruiz, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
