REDWOOD CITY, California – Despite growing up in a country known for its hot tropical weather, a growing number of Filipino immigrants are thriving in the cold climate of Alaska.

A new report by Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development shows the migration of Filipinos to "the last frontier" has made a dramatic shift in the state’s ethnic population.

According to the report, the state’s Asian and Pacific Islander are now the largest minority groups in Anchorage, Alaska.

Across the whole state, Filipinos make up half of the entire Asian population with concentrations in the Aleutians, Kodiak Island, and in Anchorage.
