MANILA, Philippines – A Filipina overseas worker allegedly committed suicide on Kish Island in Iran.
According to Fatima Arandia, they informed the Philippine Consulate in Tehran about the death of the Pinay whose name was not mentioned in the interview with dzMM on Friday morning.
“Kino-confirm ko kung may dadating sabi nila may sakit daw yung ConGen (Consul General),” Arandia said.
Arandia has been working as an OFW on Kish Island since 2006. She is among those providing assistance to stranded OFWs on the island.
“Itong nagpakamatay na babae, kasi dito hindi inilalabas ang bangkay sa Iran hanggang di nao-autopsy,” she said.
Arandia added that she got word that the woman’s family back home had sent a letter to the consulate requesting to forego the autopsy.
Based on the conversation she had with the Pinay’s best friends, the woman had wanted to go home to the Philippines after learning about her father’s death and her mother’s illness.
“Kinuha daw kasi ng boyfriend sa Dubai tapos after one siya sa Dubai namatay yung tatay. Pagkamatay daw ng tatay nagkasakit daw yung nanay. So parang gusto na niyang umuwi pero nandito siya sa exit (Kish Island),” said Arandia.
The boyfriend, she was told, agreed to pay for the visa to Dubai then back to the Philippines with the condition that the woman would pay him back soon.
“Itong babae yata nagisip ng nagisip. Four days daw na hindi kumain tapos ayun, nakitang nakalutang na siya sa dagat 11 p.m.,” she said.
