REDWOOD CITY, California - Filipino caregivers in the city of Fresno staged a rally recently, publicly accusing the owners of an assisted living facility of wage theft.
At a protest last week, the workers urged the owners of Bedford Care Group to pay them back wages and overtime totaling $1.6 million.
Last year, the California Labor Commissioner cited Bedford Care Group for labor violations that include unpaid minimum wage and overtime, as well as meal and rest break violations.
Bedford Care Group owners have appealed the decision and were set to present their side on Monday.
According to the state’s investigation, Bedford Care Group owes eleven workers $1.3 million in unpaid overtime, over $17,000 in minimum wage and over $95,000 for meals and rest breaks.
The company was also fined $114,500.
