MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) clarified on Friday that alert level 2 is only implemented in some areas in Thailand and not the whole country.
In a text message from DFA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Raul Hernandez, he said that only returning overseas Filipino workers with existing employment contracts will be allowed to go back to Bangkok, Nonthaburi province, Lad Lum Kaew District of Pathumthani provine and Bang Phli district of Samutprakan province.
"The deployment of new hires to these places is temporarily suspended by POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration). Alert level 2 is only for those places mentioned and not for the whole of Thailand," Hernandez said.
The DFA raised its alert level from 1 to 2 for Bangkok and surrounding areas, urging Filipinos to restrict non-essential movements and to avoid public places and prepare for evacuation.
"The DFA said that Alert Level 2 is issued when there are real threats to the life, security, and property of Filipinos arising from internal disturbance or external threat," the DFA said in an earlier statement.
