Pinay make-up artist Anna de Leon

DUBAI – A Filipina make-up artist and fashion stylist is making a name for herself in Dubai.

Anna de Leon is popular among magazine editorials and has become a trusted person counted upon by brides on their wedding day.

"I've been doing make-up since '96. I started in the Philippines. I started with the Grand Central Mikiyaj, which was owned by Raul Francisco. He used to be the former premier make-up artist of Chanel in New York," said de Leon.

Not just that, de Leon's 'Woman by Ana" make-up brushes are also fast becoming a hit in the country.

"I thought, let's come up with a 15 basic brush set that any woman would need or any starting make-up would need that is amazing, quality materials but price-point would be very affordable. So we launched Woman by Anna brushes, combination of goat hair and tacklon brushes," she said.

De Leon still manages to share her talents by organizing workshops on make-up and styling.

"It's just make-up really. At the end of the day, if it doesn't work, you can wash your face and start again. Don't be intimidated and the reason why make-up artists like myself are here is because, we want to educate," she said.

May Pertiera was among the many who attended de Leon's make-up workshop.

"I'm a mother and an artist but never really got around to putting make-up on my face at the age of 35. So basically, I attended Anna de Leon's workshop so I can learn how to beautify myself and most importantly, the skincare," said Pertiera.

Some workshop participants only wanted to learn other make-up techniques.

"Marunong ako mag make-up but then I want to know the tricks and tips kung paano ko pa ma-improve yung talent ko sa make-up," said Leslie Bautista.

Macel Marcelo added, "I came here to learn more. I know basic things about make-up but having been here for the past three hours I'm fascinated at how much learning I get to learn today".
