MANILA, Philippines – Four more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who survived the hostage crisis in an Algerian gas complex are set to arrive today in the Philippines, an official said.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Adminsitrator Carmelita Dimzon said the four belong to the 16 Filipinos who escaped death from the hands of Islamist militants who took over the In Amenas gas complex last week.
Dimzon said of the 16 OFWs, five are now back in the Philippines while the rest were still recovering from their wounds.
Earlier, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said at least 6 Filipinos died in the Algerian siege, which was perpetrated by al Qaeda-linked Islamist militants who are against the raid of French troops in the nearby country of Mali.
Four more Filipinos remain unaccounted for. – with dzMM
