The inauguration of the new consulate was attended by the Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Evelyn D. Austria-Garcia, Moravia Governor Michal Hašek, Brno City officials and other Czech government officials.

Philippine Honorary Consul General Bretislav Skácel said having a consulate in Brno is a sign of the good relations between the Philippines and Czech Republic.

With a population of around 800,000 Brno is considered the capital of judicial authority of the Czech Republic. The Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Supreme Prosecutor's Office are found in the city.

The opening of the consulate comes at a time when the two countries celebrate the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.
