HOLLYWOOD - Filipino-American actor Michael Galante was studying to be a dentist when he realized that acting was where his true passion lies.
Since he made the career jump five years ago, he has booked commercials, film, stage and TV roles.
One of his most recent roles was in the TNT show "Rizzoli & Isles". He also co-starred with hip-hop star Jay-Z in a TV commercial.
Galante's mom is a Filipina originally from Manila.
"At first she was a little reluctant because they want me to be secure financially. But now they're happy. They get to see me in commercials and films, they're like 'Oh, you're not homeless'," he said.
Galante, who used to live in the East Coast, moved to Los Angeles to pursue more roles.
He loves boxing and he was happy to play the role of a boxer in the short film "Ring the Bell."
"It was hard not to eat a lot of Filipino food," he said of his training as a boxer.
He dreams of one day doing a movie with boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
"He's my hero. I remember 9 or 10 years ago, he was starting boxing, I saw his first match on TV. I was saying to my father, 'Hey, Dad, this guy's Filipino'. It was his first professional fight and he was killing the guy. It was exciting," Galante said.
Galante also starred in "Hypebeasts" by Fil-Am director Jess Ddela Merced.
He is currently immersed in Hollywood's pilot season, and hopes to make it as a regular in a TV show.
