Pinoy writer receives award in Bangkok

MANILA - A Filipino writer received a prestigious award for his poem last month in Bangkok, Thailand.

Renowned Filipino writer Jun Cruz Reyes received the 2014 Southeast Asian Award for his poem "Bunso". The awarding ceremony had held at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok.

Reyes, a professor of the University of the Philippines, changed and raised the standards of Philippine writing by introducing and popularizing the informal language to Philippine Literature.

Established in 1979, the award brings recognition to the talents of ASEAN countries and to encourage writers of the region.
