MANILA -- Senator Nancy Binay on Thursday reiterated that she was not involved in the cakes given to Makati City senior citizens.
In an interview on radio DZMM, Binay called Engr. Mario Hechanova, former General Services Office head of the Makati City Hall, a "liar" for saying she was involved in the gift-giving activity.
"Sinungaling ho siya. Hindi ho totoong ako ho ang nagsusupply ng cake sa mga senior citizens dito sa Makati," Binay said.
"I think that the next business na papasukan ko, magtatayo na nga ako ng bakeshop," the senator joked.
She also called on Hechanova to present proof of her involvement.
"Hanggang ngayon ho, hindi pa sila nagpo-produce ng mga documento na linking me doon sa cakes eh, it's all hearsay eh," Binay added.
She clarified that no one among the members of her family is involved in any business connected to the local government.
"We're used to this, kasi sa local ganitong pambabatikos ang nararanasan namin," Binay said.
Hechanova claimed no less than former Makati Mayor and now Vice President Jejomar Binay followed up on the payment for the cakes that were being delivered to the senior citizens of Makati.
He claimed the mayor was following up on the payment because it would go to his daughter, Nancy.
"Minsan po pinatawag niya ako at ang sabi niya sa akin: 'Mario, ano ba ang nangyayari dun sa payment sa cake ni Nancy,'" he said.
Meanwhile, when asked whether she would advise her father to attend the hearings, the senator said they have yet to receive a formal invitation from the Senate.
However, even if they do receive an invitation to attend the hearing, Binay believes the whole process has become pointless, especially since some of the senators have already made up their minds.
"I don’t see the point dito sa hearing na ito. Unang-una, nakakahiya sa ating mga kababayan, kasi every time na may hearing na ganito, we are using taxpayers’ money, eh yung mga andyan sa hearing, they’ve already formed, meron na silang decision eh, di ba. Kay Senator Trillanes, guilty na, kay Senator Cayetano, guilty na, so bakit pa tayo nagco-conduct ng ganitong hearing kung biased naman na ang tingin niyo pagdating sa issue?" Binay added.
