No bail for drug suspect

MANILA - Quezon City Mayor Herbert "Bistek" Bautista on Monday said a suspected drug dealer disrespected the country's laws and investigators, which prompted him to slap the suspect.

Chinese national Xu Zhen Zhi was caught in a drug-bust operation last Friday. Around P15 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) was found in his possession.

A Philippine driver's license was also recovered from the suspect.

No bail is recommended for Xu.

The mayor said that when he asked the suspect where the illegal drugs came from, Xu said he could not understand the question.

This pushed the mayor to slap Xu on the face.

Konti lang naman," he said.

Bautista said he regrets the incident and said sorry to the public -- but not to the alleged drug dealer -- for his act.

"Hindi ako nagso-sorry doon sa suspect," he said. It’s not a good example."
