MANILA – Congresswoman-elect Sol Aragones on Friday said she will use her experience as a journalist to reach out and serve her constituents in the 3rd district of Laguna.
The 35-year-old Aragones, a reporter and radio anchor for nearly 13 years, resigned from ABS-CBN before the start of the campaign season for the May 13 elections.
She won the congressional race against incumbent Rep. Maria Evita Arago by more than 10,000 votes.
Aragones admits that does not have experience in crafting laws, but said she will take up a course on public service and governance.
She also said she is open to consulting her veteran colleagues in the House.
Kailangan talaga natin ng mga beteranong tutulong,” she said.
Aragones said the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) will play a big part in serving her constituents.
She admitted that without the funds, she might not be able to implement projects in the province.
“Parang sasakyan, paano aandar kung walang gasolina,” she said.
A House representative gets about P70 million in pork barrel funds each year.
She plans to focus on providing livelihood for women and basic needs of public school students in Laguna.
Buong taon ‘yang pangarap ng mga taga-public schools,” she said.
She also plans to craft laws to improve health benefits and livelihood for persons with disabilities.
“Gusto ko sila bigyan ng hanapbuhay para maisip nila na kahit may ganito kaming kapansanan, kaya namin mabuhay at malaki ang maaambag namin sa mundo,” she said.
