MANILA – One of the judges in the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas 2014 showed how they assessed the candidates in this year’s pageant.

Senator Sonny Angara posted on Instagram a photo of a sheet of paper showing the judging criteria for Binibining Pilipinas 2014.

It showed that 50% of a candidate’s score is based on the “beauty of face,” with 30% going to “beauty of figure.”

The question and answer round, which assesses a candidate’s “intelligence,” only accounts for 10% of the score, while “poise and personality” takes up the remaining 10%.

Winning the top crown of Miss Universe Philippines 2014 was Mary Jean Lastimosa, who also bagged the Best in Swimsuit award.

Other winners in the pageant were Mary Anne Guidotti (Binibining Pilipinas International 2014), Kris Tiffany Janson (Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2014), Yvethe Marie Santiago (Binibining Pilipinas Supranational), Parul Shah (Binibining Pilipinas Tourism 2014), Laura Lehmann (First runner-up) and Hannah Ruth Sison (Second runner-up).

Meanwhile, Angara also reacted to comments made by netizens after he was the only judge who asked a Tagalog question during the question-and-answer round.

This after some Internet users blamed early favorite Pia Wurtzbach’s loss on his Tagalog question, which allegedly “alienated” the other foreign judges in the pageant.

On Twitter, Angara said he explained Wurtzbach’s answer to the other judges and they were impressed.

Wurtzbach, for her part, said in an Instagram post that she is “grateful” to be given the opportunity to be part of Binibining Pilipinas, adding that it is “time to turn the page and move on to a new chapter.”

“When I placed 1st RU (first runner-up) last year, I gave all my time, effort & love to my job. I had so much fun! I just tried again because I wanted to know if this was really meant for me. But how do you know if you don’t take chances, right? I’m glad I made it this far. No doubt that I learned so much from it. I’m a better person now than I was a year ago,” she wrote.

“Thank you to my mentors from Aces & Queens for teaching me everything I know & transforming me! And to my supporters for pushing me & encouraging me. THANK YOU!! Time to turn the page & move on to a new chapter!” she added.
