MANILA, Philippines – Laguna Governor ER Ejercito expressed disappointment for not winning the Best Actor trophy at the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival awards for his movie “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story.”

“Itong isang sikat na TV host sinasabi eh magwawala daw si Dingdong kapag natalo siya bilang best actor at itataya nila ang buong pamilya niya kapag siya ay natalo ng best actor,” Ejercito said.

There are speculations Ejercito was referring to actress Kris Aquino, who is Dantes' leading lady in "Segunda Mano." Dantes won Best Actor.

In a previous interview with The Buzz, Aquino stressed that Dantes deserves to win the award.

In a message posted on her Twitter account on Thursday, Aquino expressed happiness for her leading man’s victory.

“Thank You God! Answered fervent prayer- Dingdong Dantes MMFF best actor for Segunda Mano!," Aquino said.

In MMFF Awards Night, "Asiong Salonga" won 8 trophies including major awards, Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

Despite the controversy, Ejercito is expecting the film to draw more viewers.

"May kapalit pala lahat, ang mga pagsubok, intriga, ang inggit at sabotahe po na ginawa sa amin...Palagay ko mas lalong lalakas ang 'Asiong Salonga,'" he said.

On Tuesday, Ejercito cried foul over the delayed release of "Asiong." The delay was brought about by SQ Laboratories' late delivery of the film's prints to 34 theaters on December 25, the opening day of the MMFF.
