MANILA, Philippines -- By now, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas should be used to lording it over the box-office during the annual Metro Manila Festival Festival (MMFF). Still the "Sisterakas" star wasn't prepared for the record-setting success of her latest MMFF entry.
An emotional delas Alas on Wednesday thanked moviegoers at a special screening of the hit comedy film, which also stars Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino.
"Napakabuti ni God. Thank you po. No. 1 kami," said delas Alas.
"Thank you po sa lahat po ng nanonood sa buong sambayanang Pilipino. Patuloy niyo pong hindi kami binibitawan tuwing may Metro Manila Film Fest," she added.
According to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, "Sisterakas" grossed P39.2 million on its first day in theaters nationwide.
Delas Alas treated the children of Missionaries of Charity to a special screening of "Sisterakas," which was also attended by the comedienne's close friends, Eugene Domingo and Marvin Agustin.
"Every 25th (of December) mayroon kasi akong ano (date) sa Missionaries of Charity. So noong nagpaalam ako sa mga madre kasi bawal naman talaga (ilabas ang mga bata) sabi ko po gusto ko po sana makapanood 'yung mga bata ng sine. Sa buong buhay nila ngayon lang sila makakanood ng sine," delas Alas said.
The comedienne said this was her way of giving thanks for all the blessings she received this year.
