MANILA, Philippines -- President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III considers watching his youngest sister's latest movie as a diversion from national "concerns."
|President Aquino was all-smiles leaving a block screening of "Sisterakas" at a Makati mall.
On Christmas Day, Aquino attended the block screening of "Sisterakas" at a Makati mall.
"It's a nice break from all the concerns right now," he told reporters shortly after the screening.
The Wenn V. Deramas-directed movie stars the President's sister Kris, along with Ai Ai delas Alas and Vice Ganda. Released under Star Cinema, the comedy flick is an entry to the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
"I liked Ai Ai's performance really well. I think there are very good lessons to it," the President said.
In "Sisterakas," Kris plays an eccentric yet ambitious "fashionista" who plots the downfall of a rival company owned by Vice Ganda's character.
The "Kris TV" host, in an earlier interview, said she accepted the role on the condition that her character would have "remorse" over her actions, "at magpakabait siya at magpakumbaba."
After watching "Sisterakas," President Aquino left for Baguio City, where he will stay for a vacation until Sunday.
Of the warm reception to the film at its opening screening, Kris said, "Nakakakilig talaga."
"Nakakatuwa," Vice Ganda added. "Kasi ang daming beses [naghalakhakan] sa loob ng sinehan."
"Tulala lang ako pag first day, ngayon lang namin napanood eh. Hindi ako masyado nakatutok sa pelikula, hinihintay ko lang kung kailan sila magsisigawan," the "It's Showtime" host said.
As of Wednesday, "Sisterakas" is leading the pack in total box-office earnings. In Metro Manila, the film grossed P23.1 million on its first day in theaters, while in the provinces, it turned in a single-day earning of P16.1 million.
