MANILA – Jake Cuenca spoke highly of his “Ang Panday” co-star Coco Martin, who also happened to be the director and producer of the film.
Cuenca said Martin knew what he was doing, stressing that he did a great job in his directorial debut.
“I love it. I love him as a director. Lahat ng artista, we all wish to have an actor as director. Coco Martin is an actor’s director. Naiintindihan niya kung anong pinagdadaanan ng artista in a scene-to-scene basis. Not a lot of current directors know that,” he said.
Cuenca also appreciated the fact that Martin gave him freedom to give life to his character as Lizardo.
“Hindi ka niya ilalagay sa alanganin. In this movie, he just let me play. He trusted me so much na makakapagbigay ako ng performance na kakaiba. I am so happy. Nanonood ako ng fight scene noong huli, halos naiiyak ako kasi ang ganda. Ang ganda ng movie na ito. I am so lucky to be part of this movie,” he said.
Cuenca admitted that Lizardo is his favorite role in his 15-year career in showbiz.
Just like Martin, does he plan to venture into directing as well?
“I am going to study first. I don’t want to direct until I study. Like with acting, my confidence comes from what I studied. When it comes to directing, the day that I do it, gusto ko at par ang directing ko with my acting. I want to study din,” he said.
“Ang Panday” will open in cinemas on December 25 as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival.
