MANILA, Philippines - Actor Gerald Anderson admitted that he cried after seeing his idol, boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, get knocked out by Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez last Sunday.
In an interview with Push.com, Anderson, who also hails from Pacquiao's hometown of General Santos, said he is still proud of the Filipino champion despite his loss.
“Siyempre nadurog puso ko nun. Naiyak nga ako eh. Naiyak ako nung napanuod ko but, at the end of the day, manalo, matalo, you know he’s still our hero and siya pa rin ang Pinoy pride natin,” said Anderson, who even wore a Pacquiao shirt.
“I’m really a big Pacquiao fan. Actually, I think that out of all his fights, kahit dun sa mga panalo niya, this is the best time para maging proud sa kanya,” he added.
Last Sunday, celebrities turned to the microblogging site Twitter to express their support for Pacquiao after he was knockout by Marquez in the sixth round.
Meanwhile, Anderson is now gearing up for his newest project with actress Cristine Reyes.
“In a couple of weeks mag-sa-start na kami sa 'Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin,' mga first week ng January. Nag-bond na rin kami. Kumbaga we’re just getting ready para mag-start na. Magaling si Cristine and she can offer something different para sa mga viewers,” he said.
