Young superstar Judy Ann Santos was thrilled by the success of the fundraising dinner for the movie “Ploning.”
Family, close friends and supporters of Ploning flocked to Rockwell Tent in Makati City Wednesday to participate in the fundraising dinner dubbed “Plato Para Kay Ploning.”
The “Plato Para Kay Ploning” was the second activity organized by Santos in an effort to raise P5 million to boost movie’s chances in the prestigious 2009 Academy Awards in the United States. Ploning is vying for the best foreign language film award.
Last week, Santos and her friends in show business, auctioned off clothes and other personal belongings of celebrities.
“Nakakatuwa kasi ang daming kumikilos. I’m just really thankful for the 22 years that I’ve been in this business, I’ve gained so many friends,” Santos said.
A report by showbiz talk show “Entertainment Live” said it was Santos, who took up cooking lessons, prepared the seven-course meal herself.
The guests, meantime, were treated to a night of music with the performances of Sarah Geronimo, Ogie Alcasid, Nina, Sitti, Richard Poon, Arnel Pineda and Aiza Seguerra.
“I think it's about time for us na sana maka-penetrate naman tayo sa Oscars,” Santos’s mother, Carol, said.
Ploning’s director, Dante Nico Garcia, was optimistic that Filipino films will be recognized once again by the international community.
“It (Ploning) could be just a start of something big. Parang ito lang ang simula para ma-notice nila ang mga pelikung Filipino ulit tulad nang nagdaang panahon,” Garcia said.
Ryan Agoncillo, Santos’s fiancé, also expressed his gratitude to all those who supported the fundraising activities.
