MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN reporter Niña Corpuz is flattered to have been chosen as the “hottest newswoman" of 2011 by a lifestyle website.
Speaking on “SRO sa DZMM” on Monday, Corpuz said she learned about the news from people who sent her text messages this morning congratulating her.
“Nagulat nga ako eh. Kaninang umaga, pag-gising ko, actually nilalagnat ako. Tapos pag-gising ko, ang dami ng text messages na 'Congratulations you're the hottest newswoman.' Eh literal na mainit ako dahil talagang mainit ako kaninang umaga,” she shared in jest.
Corpuz said she did not expect to land on the top spot of the list by spot.ph.
“I would like to thank them. Sana nga may premyo ano? Pero maraming salamat, kahit wala,” she said.
“SRO sa DZMM” anchor Alvin Elchico said that aside from Copuz’s pretty face, it is her intelligence which makes her stand out.
Corpuz graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines.
In 2004, she took an International Broadcast Journalist course in Cardiff University in Wales. Out of 800 applicants, Copuz was one of two chosen to take the course.
Last year, she won a prize for best story on labor rights from the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO), the training arm of the ILO.
Her article, Filipino domestic workers: the struggle for justice and survival, was selected among stories written by professional journalists who attended the training courses on "Communicating Labour Rights," organized yearly by the ITC-ILO.
Aside from Corpuz, ABS-CBN reporters including Chiara Zambrano, Ginger Conejero and Bernadette Sembrano also made it on spot.ph's list.
Last year, ABS-CBN anchor Pinky Webb was name hottest newswoman of 2010 by spot.ph.
ABS-CBN reporter Gretchen Malalad was 6th on the list last year.
