Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin
MANILA, Philippines – Before they started working together for the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry “One More Try”, Angel Locsin was already a huge fan of Angelica Panganiban, who started out as a child star.

In a taped interview aired on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Locsin said she has always watched Panganiban on television and film, praising her versatility as an actress.

Becky days pa lang niya, sinubaybayan ko na talaga kasi bilib ako kung paano niya naiiba ‘yung sarili niya from comedy to drama,” said Locsin, referring to Panganiban’s role in the local film adaptation of “Princess Sarah”, which starred Camille Prats.

Panganiban, for her part, commended Locsin for her kindness, which she said is “next to God.”

“Malapit na nga siyang lumutang sa lupa sa sobrang kabaitan niya,” she said. “Next to God siya, ganoon siya kabait.”

After hearing Panganiban’s praises, Locsin noted how “patient” her co-star is when it comes to love.

Panganiban is currently in a relationship with John Lloyd Cruz, Locsin’s former leading man in the movie “Unofficially Yours” and the defunct ABS-CBN series “Imortal.”

Bilib ako sa kanya, sa pasensya niya,” said Locsin, who is now in a relationship with football player Phil Younghusband.

Baliktad ‘yun. ‘Yung pasensya niya, bonggang bongga. Bonggang bongga siya,” she added.

Mature roles

In “One More Try”, Panganiban plays the role of Jacqueline, whom she described as a “career-driven na woman of the world.”

“Sinusunod siya ng lahat pero pagdating sa asawa niya, siyempre parang may pagka-submissive na lahat ng magpapasaya sa asawa, binibigay niya,” she said.

Jacqueline’s husband is portrayed by hunk actor Dingdong Dantes.

Locsin’s character, on the other hand, is Grace, a single mother to a six-year-old child who is ill. The child’s father happens to be Jacqueline’s husband.

“Meron siyang sakit, parang leukemia. Dahil doon, kailangan kong hanapin ang tatay niya,” she said.

Also part of the cast is Zanjoe Marudo, who plays the role of Grace’s lover.

Both Panganiban and Locsin said they are happy to be doing mature and challenging roles in “One More Try”, which is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day.

No competition

Meanwhile, the two Kapamilya stars denied any competition while working on their latest film.
