MANILA, Philippines –Asia’s Queen of Songs and “X Factor Philippines” judge Pilita Corrales is among the performers slated to spread the holiday cheer in a pre-Christmas concert that aims to raise funds for evangelical and outreach projects.
“A Christmas Symphony of Faith, Hope & Love,” an event of the Blessed Sacrament Parish (BSP) in South City Homes, Biñan, Laguna, will also feature Corrales’ daughter, actress and fitness guru Jackie Lou Blanco, as well as the University of the Philippines (UP) Singing Ambassadors, Mark Mabasa of “X Factor Philippines,” 2010 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) grand winner Mariel Corpus, Miguel Mendoza of “Philippine Idol,” Boy Inocencio, and the BSP Music Ministry.
“It was Ms. Pilita who hatched the idea of a concert for the benefit of the parish. The offer touched me deeply and motivated me to organize the concert. We had simple plans for the concert but when Ms. Pilita offered help to invite other guest performers, we were pleasantly overwhelmed and deeply felt blessed,” shared BSP Parish Priest Fr. Noel Magtaas, OSJ.
According to Fr. Magtaas, the inclusion of the UP Singing Ambassadors through Professor Ed Manguiat was an “added blessing” as the concert boasts of “having the best individual and group performers all in one show.”
“A Christmas Symphony of Faith, Hope & Love,” will be held on December 8, 2012 at 7 p.m. in Cinema 4 of SM City Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
“The concert will surely be a wonderful show because the theme revolves around Christmas, and Christmas songs never fail to incite joy and hope,” added Fr. Magtaas.
Concertgoers can expect renditions of not just traditional yuletide carols and Filipino Christmas songs but also religious, inspirational, and love songs from Corrales, Blanco, Mabasa, Corpus, Mendoza and Inocencio, around 20 performers from the UP Singing Ambassadors, and 150 participants from the BSP Music Ministry.
“There will be collaboration and synergy because we formed small groups from the different choirs. There is now a core group working together to put together this concert. Even during the concert, there will be moments of musical interaction between the individual performers and the different choir groups,” he stated.
Proceeds of the concert will be used for the sustenance of the BSP’s various programs: the operation of a daycare center for 50 children with plans of providing clean drinking water for the kids and their families; livelihood opportunities and catechism at the Anawim Community for underprivileged women; faith and human formation plus business opportunities for Brigada ni San Jose, a group of men from less fortunate families; Parish Renewal Experience Seminar (PREX) which aims to encourage parishioners to serve the Lord; regular Sunday Catechism for children which includes the Mayflower devotion; construction of a catechetical center; and the opening of the School of Faith by January 2013 to celebrate the Year of Faith in the parish.
In addition, the proceeds will be utilized for the improvement of the church’s sound system and ventilation, and refurbishing of its colored windows.
