Lea Salonga denies leaving hubby Rob Chien
MANILA, Philippines - International singer Lea Salonga on Sunday belied rumors that she and husband Robert Charles Chien have separated.
In an interview with "Paparazzi", Salonga, who is now promoting her newest album "Lea Salonga: Your Songs," said there is no truth to the supposed failure of her marriage.
"It's nasty and I think it stems from the fact that I travel for as long as I do when I do," Salonga said.
The Tony Award-winner said that she has no idea where the reports originated. She said the issue is not a big deal for her.
"And as for the rest of it, I really don’t know where it comes from. And whenever we are confronted with news like these, the two of us are like 'where on earth could this have come from' and somebody, absolutely just had nothing better to do with their time to come up with something like that.
"The thing is though gossip is what it is and it's kind of part of parcel of this business and I've heard worst said about me, so it's not a big deal," she added.
In a separate interview with "The Buzz" also on Sunday, Salonga maintained that her relationship with Chien is really good. She said her husband is very supportive whenever she has a show.
"Everything is really, really good. Salamat naman that I have a very, very understanding husband who is very encouraging when it comes to my career," she said.
Salonga added that aside from the fact that she's singing for their daughter, Nicole Beverly, she’s also performing to share her God-given talent to the people.
"Biyaya ito ng Diyos. Hindi ko ito pwedeng pabayaan. At kung mayroong pagkakataon na pwede akong kumanta kung saan-saan man eh di kailangan ko ding kunin hanggang bata pa ako at hanggang kaya ko pa," she said.
Salonga married Chien, a Chinese-Japanese executive of Ambient Media in 2004. The two met while Salonga was doing "Flower Drum Song" in US.
Two years after their wedding, Salonga gave birth to their daughter Nicole.
