MANILA - It was a joke that apparently did not sit well with the public.
Many Filipinos were not pleased when TV host-actress Kris Aquino, who played host to wives of visiting economic leaders, equated the sunburn she got to the struggles of commuters.
In an Instagram post on Thursday night, Aquino posted a photo showing her sunburn, with the TV host-actress saying in jest that the world is "equal" now.
"Quits na tayo sa lahat ng nahirapan mag-commute these past days. Patas ang mundo, patche-patche naman ang balat ko," she wrote.
Aquino, seen on the photo wrapped in a towel, said she decided to post the picture taken by her son Bimby "so we can all have a good laugh tonight sa karma ng kaartehan ko."
Aquino said she got her sunburn in Fort Santiago, as she led activities for the APEC guests.
But many Filipino netizens did not take Aquino's joke lightly, calling it "insensitive."
Posting comments on Aquino's post, the netizens told the TV host-actress that she should not compare her sunburn from touring APEC delegates to what commuters and motorists have to go through every day in Metro Manila, especially during the APEC week.
