'Showtime' launches new segment for singers 45 and up
MANILA -- A 53-year-old woman drew strong cheers and a near perfect score for her rendition of the Miley Cyrus hit "Wrecking Ball" during the debut of the new "It's Showtime" segment for singers aged 45 and up.
Felicitas Garcia, who hails from Pasig City, was among the first contestants of "Stars on 45," which was launched during the ABS-CBN noontime program early this week.
Held daily, the new contest fields two singers who must perform a tune from their preferred era of music, and another song which is currently popular.
A frequent competitor in singing contests until she got married, Garcia performed the old Linda Ronstadt hit "Blue Bayou."
Changing outfits midway through her performance, Garcia had the audience cheering when she started belting out "Wrecking Ball," which dominated international charts in recent months.
Getting an average score of 9.6 from judges Karylle, Arnel Pineda and Joy Viado, Garcia went on to become the first winner of Stars on 45.
The contest now joins "That's My Tomboy," a talent competition for lesbians, as one of the daily offerings of "It's Showtime."
The ABS-CBN program, which airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 12 noon, is also set to launch the third edition of its hit celebrity look-alike segment "Kalokalike."
