MANILA, Philippines – Coming from a relationship with a popular showbiz personality, Liz Uy knew too well what it meant going into a possible romance with another well-known figure, this time the Philippine president.

After Uy and Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz broke up in 2009, the celebrity stylist was romantically linked to President Benigno Aquino III.

"Contrary to popular belief, I didn't worm my way into his daily schedule. I was there for maybe just eight times when he was campaigning," said Uy, who was Aquino's stylist during the early months of his term as president.

It was in November 2010 when Aquino confirmed he had been "spending time" with Uy. But in an interview with women's magazine Cosmopolitan for its November 2012 issue, the fashion editor said: "We never got into a relationship."

"I respect him too much to talk about him in detail," she added.

"It was more just this overwhelming thought na, he's courting me, so why not. It's not every day that a president will like [me]," Uy said of being open to a possible relationship with Aquino who, at the time, had just broken up with Valenzuela City councilor Shalani Soledad.

On the reason why they never became a couple, Uy pointed to the high-profile lifestyle that may come with being Aquino's partner.

"Ayoko ma-criticize. I know that I won't live a normal life," she said, adding in jest, "And I don't know anything about politics!"
