Korina, Coco nominated at Asian TV Awards

MANILA, Philippines – The Kapamilya network received six nominations at the 2012 Asian TV Awards (ATA), including nods for broadcaster Korina Sanchez and actor Coco Martin.

The nominees in the various categories were released on Tuesday on the official ATA website.

ABS-CBN’s “Bandila: Sendong's Wrath” is vying for Best News Programme against shows from Hong Kong and Singapore. "Bandila" already won the Best News Programme in 2007 for its coverage of the Subic rape case.

ABS-CBN News’ chief correspondent Korina Sanchez was nominated in the Best Current Affairs Presenter category for her show “Rated K.” Sanchez will be up against six other presenters from India, Singapore and Malaysia.

“ASAP Rocks: Gives Back” will compete with TV shows from from Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia in the Best Music Programme category.

Boy Abunda’s “The Bottomline,” meanwhile, will be competing in the Best Talk Show category for the second year in a row. The show won in this category last year, beating top Asian programs, including “Talk Asia” of CNN Hong Kong and “The Euthanasia Debate” of New Delhi Television in India.

Actor Coco Martin was also nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his performance in the “Maalaala Mo Kaya: Kamao” episode.

For the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, it will be child star Sharlene San Pedro who will compete against six others. San Pedro received the nomination for her performance in the “Maalaala Mo Kaya: T-Shirt” episode.

Other Pinoy nominees

Apart from ABS-CBN, other Philippine networks also received nominations -- three each for GMA-7 and TV5 and one for Solar Entertainment.

Filipino actor Arthur Acuña has also been nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as Harry Shaw in the hit pan-Asian television series "The Kitchen Musical."

Acuña will be up against eight actors in that category including actor Gabby Eigenmann for his role in the GMA-7 series “Munting Heredera.”

The 2012 ATA TV Awards will be held on December 6 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore.
