MANILA – Matteo Guidicelli shrugged off accusations that he is using his girlfriend, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, to promote his album and upcoming concert.
“What’s new? I’m used to it. I’m not gonna be affected because I know the truth with what I’m doing. That’s why we are not working with each other. We make it a point that we don’t work together,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Guidicelli also clarified that he is not the one bringing up the topic of Geronimo during his interviews.
“I’m not consciously broadcasting Sarah. I’m just answering questions. Some people always think I’m always talking about her. But I am just answering questions. It’s an exchange of conversation. Sarah is an influence to me,” he said.
“Last night, when I called MJ (Felipe), sabi ko, 'Let’s talk about the music [during the press con]. Let’s not talk about Sarah.' But how can we decline? We are talking. It’s a normal thing. It’s nothing bad, nothing good. It’s just being honest and being real. Kung hindi nila matanggap, bahala sila sa buhay nila,” he added.
Guidicelli also has a message to those who still doubt his sincerity with respect to his relationship with Geronimo.
“That’s normal. Everybody will doubt. Everybody will hate. The point is, Sarah and I, we know the truth. It’s Sarah and I in a relationship. Not me and another person. Kami. Wala naman silang alam sa totoong nangyayari. We know the truth on things. They can doubt or think whatever they want to think,” he said.
Meanwhile, Guidicelli admitted that Geronimo is indeed a huge inspiration in his music career. Nonetheless, he maintained that he’s always been into music even before they got together.
“I’ve always wanted this. This is my dream since the beginning kahit nung wala pa si Sarah. But Sarah is always supportive. She’s a big inspiration to whatever I do. She’s an inspiration. I use this inspiration to fuel the album,” he said.
In fact, the actor revealed that he studied musical theater in the United States when he was in college.
But were his songs in the album, especially “Huwag Ka Nang Umuwi,” actually written for Geronimo?
“The whole album was inspired by the truth. It’s about what I feel. I hope people like me, they can relate also if they are going through the same thing,” he said.
After his successful concert in Cebu last year, Guidicelli is once again set to take the stage, this time in Manila, with a concert titled “Hey Matteo.”
The show will be held at the Kia Theater on November 30 at 7:30 p.m.
