MANILA - After winning the music competition "SoundSkool" last year, the band members of "Letter Day Story" (LDS) are raring to work with the biggest names in the music business.
The band, known for the OPM hit "Ikaw Pa Rin", are setting their sights on working with mainstream artists like rapper Gloc-9, Rico Blanco, and rock band 6cyclemind.
In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, LDS vocalist Dex Yu said he had just wrapped up a recording with Gloc-9 for the rapper's upcoming album.
Given a chance, Yu said his band would like to collaborate with Gloc-9 on a song. Lately, though, the band is busy preparing for their next album, set for release next year.
Other band members include Oliver Agustin on Bass and Vocals, Notnot Vinzons on Guitars, and EJ Arabit on Drums.
Giving advice
The LDS are currently in Boracay Island in Aklan to teach a new legion of rock star aspirants at this year's Nescafe 3-in-1 "SounSkool", an annual battle between the best college bands in the country.
As one of the "mentor bands" in this year's competition, LDS has to help out 13 finalists coming from different colleges and universities nationwide - something the band relishes.
"Alam mo, kakaiba ang feeling. Hindi namin ini-expect na kami na 'yong uupo [ngayon] sa ganoon. Dati, kami 'yong nakikinig lang. Ngayon, kami na ang nagbibigay ng advice at inspirational talk sa mga bagong banda," Yu said.
"Masaya kasi nakuha na namin 'yong dream namin na matagal na naming pinapangarap. 'Yong to share our music, our talent," he said.
'Best lesson'
As fledgling rock musicians during the 2008 SoundSkool, LDS members found the "best lessons" to be staying humble and being disciplined.
"Alam mo 'yong rules and regulations talaga sa SoundSkool, sinunod talaga namin iyon. 'Yong disiplina at madami pa. Lalo na 'yong manatiling low profile," Yu said.
The band members were also able to bond, communicate, and develop good camaraderie.
"'Yong chemistry sa music na ginagawa nila, dapat gusto niyo lahat. Nagkakasundo kayo. Tapos sa ugali, kailangan tanggapin kung may hindi magandang ugali sa kasama. Unawain at kailangan maging tapat at sabihin ang totoo para maitama 'yong mali," Yu explained.
The LDS will perform live on November 7 at the SM Mall of Asia, November 13 at the RT and on November 14 at the Aquino Stadium for the 2009 Grand Finals Night of SoundSkool.
On November 20, the band will perform at the Jose Feliciano College in Dau, Pampanga; and at the MYXMO event at the SM Mall of Asia on November 26. Report and photo by Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com
