MANILA, Philippines – Television host Charlene Gonzales got emotional as she defended her husband Aga Muhlach, who is now facing a disqualification case before the Commission on Elections.

Muhlach is running for Congress, representing the 4th district of Camarines Sur in the upcoming 2013 mid-term elections.

Speaking on “The Buzz” where she is a host on Sunday, Gonzales revealed that they have been harassed ever since she and Muhlach registered as voters.

“Feeling ko lang talaga, harassment lang talaga ang nangyayari sa amin. From the time na nag-register kami as voters, they’ve tried to take us out of the voting list from the very beginning. Para sa amin po, karapatan naman namin, ng bawat Pilipino is your right to vote. That is one of your most precious right that every Filipino deserves,” she said.

Gonzales said Muhlach would never get into something without making sure that everything is in accordance with the law.

“Even before pumasok si Aga or even when he was still considering na papasok siya sa pulitika. Talagang that’s one thing that he made sure po, talagang dapat maayos and tama talaga lahat ng legalities because hindi naman po siya 'yung tipo ng tao na papasok sa isang bagay na hindi naman po maayos. Gusto naman namin maayos lahat,” she said.

Gonzales also clarified speculations saying Muhlach is already disqualified.

“I just want to make it clear, sa lahat ng mga taga-partido, kasi ang kinakalat na balita po nila doon, disqualified na si Aga. Wala pong katotohanan iyan. As a matter of fact, nag-file lang po sila ng case, it will go through a due process, wala pang desisyon,” she said.

Gonzales also admitted that she didn't believe at first that Philippine politics is dirty.

“Alam mo even before Aga thought about doing this, marami talagang nagsasabi na parang magulo, madumi ang politics at hindi po talaga ako naniniwala doon. But actually going through something like this, totoo pala no? Masakit talaga,” she said.

Despite this, Gonzales believes the case filed against Muhlach will eventually be dismissed.

“Naniniwala rin kami ni Aga sa judicial system that we have in our country and I know that the truth will set us free. In the end, the most important thing is that, alam niyo po, sorry ha, pero you can never put a good man down who has good intentions and really a good heart,” she said.
