MANILA, Philippines – The controversy that came in the wake of his publicized relationship with Cristine Reyes proved to be a challenging episode in Rayver Cruz's life.
In an interview with "Showbiz Inside Report" aired Saturday, Cruz recounted the tumultuous year when he was romantically linked to singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, and subsequently to Reyes, his current girlfriend.
"Malaking pagsubok nga 'yung time na 'yun para sa akin. Kailangan maging strong ka lang, and paniwalaan mo lang na 'yung ginagawa mo is tama. Malalagpasan mo naman lahat, at siyempre pray ka lang kay Lord," Cruz said.
"In time magiging okay naman lahat, so ngayon, masaya na masaya naman ako," he added.
In 2010, Geronimo and Reyes figured in a controversial spat over Cruz, when Reyes took to micro-blogging site Twitter to rant about a "drama princess," later on identified to be Geronimo.
For a time, before he and Reyes became a couple, Cruz was rumored to be in a relationship with Geronimo, whose parents allegedly disapproved of their then blooming romance.
Speculations of "overlapping" relationships drew sympathy for Geronimo, fuelling adverse reactions to Cruz and Reyes' romance. At the time, the sexy actress was even moved to tears in an interview when she recounted the criticisms hurled at her.
Geronimo and Reyes have since been reported to be in good terms after their reconciliation, and were even seen greeting each other at a party in late October.
"May mga flaws rin naman ako pagdating sa relasyon," Cruz said of what he learned from his "biggest trial." "Pero mas natuklasan ko na mas kaya ko na i-handle pag may ka-relasyon."
Now two years into their relationship, Cruz and Reyes are set to co-star in ABS-CBN's upcoming TV series "Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin," where they will reportedly be caught in a "love triangle" with Gerald Anderson.
