|Miss Denmark, Miss Philippines and Miss Canada, all with Filipino blood, to compete in 2011 Miss World pageant.
MANILA, Philippines – For the first time in history, three beauties with Filipino lineage will be competing against each other in the 2011 Miss World pageant.
They are Filipino-Canadian Riza Santos who is Canada’s bet, Filipino-Danish Maya Celeste Padillo Olesen who will represent Denmark and the Philippines’ very own Gwendoline Ruais.
The beauty queens said they have already become friends during their stay in London for the Miss World Tour because of their common connection in the Philippines.
The three also expressed their gratitude for the support the Filipino community is giving them.
“I really appreciate support from the Filipino community from Philippines, from Canada. There are Filipinos living around the world I'm proud of my Filipino-Canadian heritage so yes, I'm honored to be representing
Canada and come from a Filipino background,” said Santos.
Olesen, on the other hand, boasted off some of the Filipino words that she know of.
“Although I can’t speak the Filipino language, I feel like one. I can say “mabuhay,” “mahal kita.” I can count up to ten really.. you want to hear it? isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat,” she related.
Ruais for her part vowed she will do everything in her power to clinch the Miss World crown.
She also said that even though she does not have the 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup’s "tsunami walk", she has her own “Gwendoline walk.”
‘Yong sa akin, kung ano feel ko, kung feel na feel ko ang stage, 'yong ako ang Pinay, ako ang magaling. iyon ang walk, walang pangalan,” she said,
The Miss World coronation night will be held this coming Sunday, November 6 in London Earls Court Arena. – Report from Rose Eclarinal, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
