MANILA, Philippines - Actor Paulo Avelino said he finds it flattering to be identified as comedian Vice Ganda's “ultimate crush.”

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s “E-Live” on Saturday, Avelino said it is an honor on his part to earn Vice’s attention.

“Well I’m thankful sa dinami-dami ng pwedeng maging crush ni Vice Ganda ako 'yung 'ultimate crush' niya. Wala naman siguro masama sa magka-crush sa isang tao,” he said.

Given the chance, Avelino said it will also be his pleasure to work with Vice, even if it involves an actual kissing scene.

“Kung magkakaroon ng project, wala naman din sigurong masama [kung may kissing scene], as long as maganda ‘yung material. Knowing Vice naman mukhang okay naman.”

Gay roles

Avelino recently headlined the 7th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival entry “Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa,” wherein he played a gay role.

Given his rather promising portrayal in the movie, some say that it is not impossible that he may get typecast in similar roles in the future.

When asked whether the thought of being stereotyped as a gay actor terrifies him, he answered, “Hindi ako natatakot.”

He explained, “Kasi pinipili ko rin naman ‘yung magaganda ‘yung mga laman nung script o nung materyal.”

And should a similar project come his way, he said that he will not think twice on grabbing the opportunity.

“If ever magkaraoon ulit ako ng ganoong project okay lang,” he said.

“Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” won the Pre-Colombian Bronze award at the 28th International Film Festival last October 18 in Colombia.

Avelino gladly shared his delight to have the opportunity to represent the country overseas and be a part of an award-winning movie.

He said, “Happy [ako] of course kasi na-appreciate ng mga tao ‘yung ginawa naming film. It’s based on feminist poetry, Filipinas, so happy na na-appreciate nila sa ibang bansa.”

Avelino is also a part of Regal film’s upcoming Halloween movie entitled “Aswang,” wherein he plays alongside Lovi Poe and Albie Casiño.

During the movie’s shooting, it was reported that Poe initially declined doing a love scene with him.

Asked whether he was hurt by Poe’s refusal to do an intimate scene with him, Avelino said no.

He explained, “I’m very open minded, and kinausap ko rin si Lovi kung ano insight niya kung bakit ayaw niya.”

Upon hearing her side, Avelino said that he sincerely understands where the actress is coming from.

“Gusto rin niya kasi manood ‘yung mga bata mga ganyan, so [to resolve the concern] it was made in a very well manner, very subtle and sexy at the same time. Hindi naman kabastos-bastos,” he said.

Avelino vs. Casiño

In line with the rivalry posed between him and Casiño, on the other hand, Avelino said that he never lets it come between their friendship.

According to him, “Albie and I are good friends, so no matter what people say we’ll still be friends.”

Also, he dispelled the rumor that there is an actual competition between them when it comes to taking on projects.

He said, “Regarding the projects, wala naman walang sulutan o walang agawan na nangyari. The network, [as far as] I know, has plans also for him. And magkaiba naman ‘yung packaging namin.”
