Jiro Manio sets sights on college

After breathing life into some of the most memorable child characters in local filmdom, young actor Jiro Manio is focusing on a different challenge in life -- college.

In an interview, the actor proudly shared that he will be graduating from high school next March.

Manio that since he’s enrolled in a home school program, he does not have a hard time adjusting studies and work.

The actor said that after graduation, he is planning to take an HRM course majoring in culinary studies at the College of St. Benilde.

Manio who turned 16 last May is the youngest multi-awarded actor of his generation. In 2004, he won two awards -- Best Actor at Gaward Urian and Best Child Actor at Famas for the movie “Magnifico.”

Aside from Magnifico, Manio is also known for his roles in indie films such as “Tambolista." In the film Manio plays the role of Jason, a young man who is desperate to have his own set of drums.

“Hindi ako sanay sa ganoong role na medyo violent, pero sabi ko okay din ito kasi bihira akong makagawa ng ganoong films. Ako naman kinausap ko si direk Alix Adolf, in-explain niya na ganoon ang film may pagka-dark side. Ako naisip ko ‘dark side parang napapanood ko din’ ako iniisip ko na lang na kaya kong gawin so iyon,” he said.

Asked where he gets his emotions to do heavy drama scenes, Manio replied: “Siyempre marami akong ina-approach siyempre ang director namin, ang mga cast ang mga kasama kong artista at self ko. (Iyong emotions) siguro  sa life na lang iyon.”

Fresh from doing indies and episodes for ABS-CBN’s “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” the young actor is gearing up for another television project. In his upcoming show, Manio will be working with the country’s most respected actors and actresses.

Manio said the opportunity to work with some of local showbiz's most respected icons keeps him grounded and humble.

“Hindi naman ganoon ka-pressure pero siyempre nandoon pa din ako sa gitna ng industriya. Sa ngayon kahit nakuha ko na iyong mga awards, sobrang down to earth pa din ako kahit paano,” Manio said.

Manio earlier made headlines when reports surfaced that he got a non-showbiz teen pregnant.

In a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Manio denied the malicious rumors that he is soon to be a young father.
Manio said that as a loyal boyfriend to his non-showbiz sweetheart he is also doing his best to avoid temptation from other girls.

He said that he is happy with his girlfriend and that their relationship is purely platonic.
