MANILA, Philippines - American hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas member Taboo proudly said he is a Filipino at heart.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News during his trip to several Gawad Kalinga villages in Taguig City on Thursday, the rapper, who has Mexican blood, said he sincerely loves the Philippines.

“Even though I’m not Filipino, I’m Filipino in the heart. I love the Philippines,” he said.

When asked what he likes the most about being in the home country of his best friend and fellow Black Eyed Peas member, Taboo said it has to be the Philippines' rich culture.

He explained, “I see rich culture you know a lot of heart, emotion, a lot of union. Everybody’s unified and we as Americans, I’m speaking about the people that I’m with, have a lot to learn.”

Aside from apl, Taboo said that there is another person close to his heart who has roots in the Philippines.

With great pride, Taboo said his wife is a Filipina, thus making the Pearl of the Orient his second home.

He said, “Being married to a Filipino woman, having my kids be mestizos, it (Philippines) hits home. It has a special place in my heart.”

According to Taboo, his wife’s hometown is in the province of Cavite.

Taboo left the Philippines Thursday morning.

Given another chance, he said he is more than willing to return to the country.

“It’s an eye-opening experience, and I want to be able to go back to the Philippines, even if it’s not with my group, just to be more connected,” he said.

In line with his return, he said that he’s also planning to further immerse himself into helping the people in need. – Report from Ginger Conejero, ABS-CBN News
