Tragedy turns love eternal in 'Walang Hanggan' finale
Finale captivates viewers, conquers Twitterverse
MANILA, Philippines -- In the final scenes that captivated viewers of the "phenomenal" primetime series "Walang Hanggan," death became key for Daniel and Katerina's eternal love.
After almost 11 months on air and a string of successes from its strong nationwide viewership, "Walang Hanggan" on Friday night aired its final episode, captivating followers of two love stories that spanned generations.
In her last moments, Katerina (Julia Montes) assures her husband Daniel (Coco Martin) that she will "wait for him," seconds before her dying breath.
Hearing of his sister's demise, Tomas (Joem Bascon) vows revenge on Daniel, the man whose life was spared by Katerina's sacrifice. The mental institution-held Nathan (Paulo Avelino), meanwhile, is seen in anguish over news of his love's death.
Referring to Tomas' uttered intentions, Twitter user @loveprincesskim said on the micro-blogging site: "Nako po Tomas, alam mo ba na gusto na ni Daniel mamatay para makasama nya sa ibang lugar si Katerina!!"
Learning of Katerina's fate, Margaret (Helen Gamboa) finds little reason to rejoice despite being freed from imprisonment, for having cooperated with authorities against Miguel.
Having endured days and the elements at the side of Katerina's resting place, Daniel is confronted by Tomas, who shoots him dead after a brief struggle.
"Iba 'to ah," Twitter user @adriellcalip said of the scene. "Dying beside the grave of your loved one. That's what you call, "Walang Hanggan" Kilabot lang. Ang galing! #WalangHangganFinale
An anguished Emily (Dawn Zulueta) rushes to her son's aid, but finds it too late to bid him goodbye.
Referring to the scene, netizen @OHimcentlei said, "Grabe lang yung iyak ko! Hands down!!! Very good actors and actresses! #WalangHangganFinale w/ sipon Oh my G!"
After death, however, Daniel is overjoyed to be reunited with Katerina. "Ngayon magkasama na kami ni Katerina at malayang magmahalan nang walang hanggan," he says.
In spirit, in the company of their families and loved ones, Daniel and Katerina witness new milestones in their lives. Marco (Richard Gomez) and Emily conceive a child, who they name after their first born, while Nathan finally finds it in him to apologize for the wrongs he has done to the couple.
The daughter of Marco's new business partners, meanwhile, is seen locking eyes with the younger Daniel. Her name: Katherine.
