MANILA, Philippines – During Monday’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, celebrities would cast not only their ballots, but they would also test their will and charisma to lead the basic units of the political system of the country.
Among the youth, Wynwyn Marquez, daughter of actress Alma Moreno and comedian Joey Marquez, tried for the first time her luck and determination to head the young folks of Parañaque City. Her half-brother, Jeremy Marquez, meanwhile, is running for barangay chairman in the same city.
One of Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. and Lani Mercado’s sons, Jolo Revilla, is attempting to win a barangay chairmanship in Cavite.
Action star Dan Alvaro is returning to the political battle after losing in Quezon City council race last May elections.
The Barangay San Agustin in Novaliches has fielded Alvaro as one of the 7 kagawads of the incumbent captain.
As early as 8 a.m. Monday, Alvaro went straight ahead to the polling place in his district to cast his vote.
“Maaga akong gumising kaninang umaga. ‘Yong wife ko, ipinaghanda agad ako ng almusal at sabay kaming kumain with our kids. Tapos, nagbihis na ako to go to the precinct.
Kamay dito, kamay doon,” recalled Alvaro, Roland Galura in real life.
Is he confident that he will win this time?
“Oo naman. Ang dami kong supporters. No’ng kasing kumandidato akong konsehal, wala akong partido.
Alvaro entered anew in the political game for visibility.
Actor Jigo Garcia, who also lost in the last elections, is running for barangay chairman.
Comic Kuhol is also running for barangay board member in Quezon City as well as movie scribe Gary Sta. Ana for kagawad in Pasig City.
