MANILA, Philippines -- With her hit series "Walang Hanggan" about to end, the show's lead star Julia Montes couldn't help but become emotional as she looked back at her journey to superstardom.
Mara Hautea Schnittka in real life, Montes started her career as a commercial model until she was cast as the young Anne Curtis in the 2004 ABS-CBN series "Hiram." Montes then joined the gag show "Goin Bulilit" in 2005.
"Noon akala ko from 'Goin Bulilit' hanggang doon lang ako. Ang dami kong pinagdaanang hirap, nasubukan ko lahat -- pumila mag-audition, mag-workshop at kung ano-ano," Montes recalled on Wednesday on "Umagang Kay Ganda."
In 2010, Montes got her big break in television when she was offered the role of Clara in the hit series "Mara Clara" with Kathryn Bernardo as Mara.
But that was just the beginning. This year, she went to to capture the hearts of Filipino viewers as Katerina in the phenomenal series "Walang Hanggan" with leading man Coco Martin.
"I really want this. Lagi ko ngang sinasabi na hanggang mawala ako sa mundo, ito ang trabaho ko, ito talaga. Nabigyan nga ako ng pagkakataon na ganito, iba 'yung feeling, iba 'yung happiness talaga, iba," she said.
Asked to give her message to the viewers, especially to her supporters, Montes couldn't help but cry.
"Sa lahat ng nagtiwala from the start -- kasi marami ang nagsasabi na matured role ito baka hindi ko kaya -- until the end ay nandiyan sila sumusuporta. Iba 'yung feeling. So sobrang thankful ako. Kayo ang inspiration ko. Thank you," she said.
"Walang Hanggan" is now on its last week with the finale airing on Friday, October 26, after "Princess and I" on ABS-CBN.
