MANILA, Philippines – Grace Poe-Llamanzares, daughter of Fernando Poe Jr., on Thursday was sworn in as Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairwoman by President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang.
Llamanzares told reporters that she wants to help the movie and television industries become more progressive as well as make them contributors to the economy.
She said she intends to work with a board that will be composed mainly of industry members to better understand the industry. She said this is also in accordance with the implementing rules, which say that at least 15 members of the board should come from the entertainment industry.
As the new MTRCB chair, Llamanzares revealed that she will immediately seek solution to the reduced budget of the agency for the year 2011.
Furthermore, Llamanzares said she aims to lead an "open-minded board" that will take into consideration the welfare of the TV and movie industries.
She said her views are neither liberal nor conservative, but only "makatao."
“I will neither be conservative or liberal, makabayan lang ako. I will try to strike a balance between the rights of the filmmakers and the viewing public. I hope my dad will be proud of me,” Llamanzares said.
Meanwhile, she explained why her mom, veteran actress Susan Roces, did not accompany her during her oath-taking.
“We will celebrate with the family after. I guess she wants me to show my independence from her and she would rather reserve her comments regarding my new responsibilities after I've actually started working,” she shared. –With report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
