MANILA, Philippines – The comedy flick “This Guy’s in Love with U Mare” is shaping up to be this year’s biggest hit.

According to the latest box office data from the website Box Office Mojo, the Star Cinema release grossed an estimated P123,491,673 in its first five days in Philippine theaters.
During the period October 10-14, the comedy film starring Vice Ganda, Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano was easily the top grossing film of the week, with the Hollywood blockbuster “Taken 2” at a far second, earning P 33,523,048 on its second week in theaters. The action sequel starring Liam Neeson has now grossed P111,649,427 in the Philippines.
“This Guy’s in Love with U Mare” played in 204 screens, compared to 122 for “Taken 2.”
Vice Ganda’s follow up to “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin,” still the all-time box office champ, is definitely off to a strong start.
In comparison, this year’s biggest local movie so far, the John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo drama “The Mistress” earned P106,273,381 during its first five days in theaters, according to Box Office Mojo data.
Also released by Star Cinema, “The Mistress” is still showing in around 40 screens on its fifth week and has now earned an estimated P 262,790,300 in the Philippines alone.
The only other Filipino movie in this week’s list, the romantic movie “Of All the Things” starring Regine Velasquez and Aga Muhlach, has earned a paltry P22,426,078 after three weeks in theaters.
