MANILA, Philippines - Multi-awarded director Marilou Diaz-Abaya was laid to rest on Saturday morning at the Loyola Memorial Park in Parañaque City.
A final mass was offered for the director at the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) in Quezon City before family, friends and supporters brought her remains to her final resting place at 11 a.m.
Among those who attended the burial were Star Cinema head Malou Santos, Cesar Montano, Sunshine Cruz, Ina Feleo, Jhong Hilario and fellow director Laurice Guillen.
Diaz-Abaya succumbed to breast cancer last Monday night, October 8, at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig.
Some of her most well-known works include "Tanikala," "Muro-ami," and the "Jose Rizal" biopic.
Her final film was the religious family drama "Ikaw ang Pag-ibig" in 2011, which commemorated the 300th anniversary of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. -- With a report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
