MANILA, Philippines –Celebrities on Sunday joined hundreds of thousands of Filipino runners in “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River.”
The fun run organized by the Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig has been touted as the largest footrace in the Philippines.
It drew more than 100,000 actual runners, including celebrities, to break all Philippine records on the most participants in a footrace.
Manny Pacquiao, Luis Manzano, Piolo Pascual, Karylle, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Jovit Baldivino, and Bugoy Drilon were among the celebrities spotted in the event.
Aside from celebrities, contingents from schools, religious groups, government agencies, the police and military, non-government organizations, business sector, and private institutions made up the enormous crowd that gathered at the run’s 3 starting points in SM Mall of Asia (MOA), CCP Complex, and Ayala Avenue in Makati.
Popular bands like Kiss Jane, Frio, and 6 cyclemind as well as Manzano, Karylle, Cantiveros, Francisco, Baldivino, and Drilon participated in the post-race program. Studio 23 hosts Arran Sese, Alex Calleja, and Juddha Paolo also hosted the program.
DZMM anchor Winnie Cordero, meantime, hosted the 3K pre-race program, while ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo joined Pascual and Zaijan Jaranilla in welcoming runners at the 10K starting point.
ABS-CBN Chairman and chief executive officer Eugenio Lopez III also showed his commitment to the Pasig River cause by joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in the ceremonial 21K run, which kicked off from Marikina City.
Pacquiao described the Pasig River as a gift from God that we should protect.
The monumental fun run was aimed to create awareness and raise funds for the massive Pasig River clean-up campaign.
