MANILA, Philippines – Actor Paulo Avelino admitted he still has a lot of things to learn when it comes to acting before he can be on a par with actor Coco Martin.

Saying he sees Martin as "one of the greatest actors today," Avelino also shrugged off rumors of a competition between them, especially now that their hit series “Walang Hanggan” is about to end.
“Si Coco po is like very hands-on sa work. When we’re on set, we stick to our characters pero off the set, we’re friends tapos nagbibigay siya ng tips sa acting,” he said on "The Buzz."
“Everyday na rin po kami nagte-taping [so hindi na ako aware na nako-compare kami],” he added.
Avelino said people probably think they’re rivals because he and Martin tend to stick to their characters when they’re on the set.
In a separate interview, Martin echoed that he and Avelino are good friends in real life.
“Wala namang kompetisyon sa pagitan namin ni Paulo. Basta para sa amin, masaya kami dahil nagagampanan namin nang tama ang mga karakter namin at dahil nagugustuhan ng mga manunuod ang takbo ng aming kwento,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Avelino credits the “Walang Hanggan” scriptwriters for making it easy for him to play Nathan, his character on the series.
“The script is very important. It explains everything, it’s our backbone. Doon ko hinuhugot lahat. 'Yung mga nanagyayari, doon ko kine-create yung character ko,” he said.
When he is not in front of the camera, Avelino said he is just a simple and quiet guy who loves to watch movies and go rock climbing.
