MANILA, Philippines -- After his separation from actress-host Kris Aquino, basketball star James Yap went through a "depression" phase.

"Oo, na-depress ako. Hindi ko dine-deny 'yan. Tao lang ako. And then siyempre, parang lonely ka, kasi hindi ka pa sanay," Yap told entertainment magazine YES! in its October 2012 issue, referring to his failed marriage with Aquino.
Despite talks of their supposed incompatibility as a couple, Yap and Aquino were married in civil rites in 2005, before they separated in June 2010.
At the time, their relationship's failure was attributed to allegations of infidelity, which brought about frequent squabbles between the couple.
In January this year, their marriage was annulled.
"Actually, kung tatanungin mo ko kung nagsisisi ako, hindi naman ako nagsisisi. Siguro naman, minahal ako ni Kris, and then minahal ko naman siya," said Yap.
"And then meron kaming Baby James ngayon. So for me, siguro may purpose lang si God. Lahat naman talaga, merong purpose eh," he added, referring to his only child with Aquino, who was born in April 2007.
The star cager, who has since become friends with Aquino, also said his tumultuous years with the controversial TV personality will serve as "lessons" for his future relationships.
"Nangyayari talaga sa isang tao 'yan 'di ba? Basta tinatanggap ko na lang. At least pag meron kang mga ganitong sitwasyon, nagiging mature at nagiging matatag ka," he said.
"Para next time, alam mo na kung anong gagawin. Alam mo na kung ano 'yung pagkukulang mo," he added.
