MANILA, Philippines - For the first time, Mariel Rodriguez admitted that she and Robin Padilla got engaged right after the premiere night of her horror movie, "Cinco," last June 15.

Just like the other events in their whirlwind romance, Padilla’s marriage proposal came unexpectedly, according to the love-struck actress-host.

“It was just so perfect and romantic. It’s not like when you plan it, you set up candles or whatever. ‘Yon we really needed candles kasi brownout. I was tired from the premiere night, naidlip ako for a while. Tapos parang may na-feel ako. When I woke up [I was shocked and speechless when I saw the ring on my finger]. I looked at him and I was like, ‘Huh?!’ And then he asked me and I said, ‘Yes,’” she happily shared in her one-on-one interview with Bianca Gonzalez on “Entertainment Live.”

When she followed Padilla to India last August 17, Rodriguez knew that she would finally say “I do” since she and Padilla had always dreamt of getting married at the Taj Mahal.

Rodriguez maintained that her grandparents knew about the wedding. “Alam naman nila. It’s not like hindi kami nag-uusap. Apat lang kami—me, my sister Kaye, my lolo and my lola.”

Why then did her grandmother cry when she first heard the rumors about their marriage?

“You know me. I cry about the littlest things. Meron akong pinagmanahan. But they’re very very happy for Robin and I. As in many times, my lolo will always assure me na ‘young blessing nila binigay nila. ‘Yong fear ng lola ko, normal lang. Gusto niya makahanap ako ng tao na magmamahal sa akin. Pero hindi ibig sabihin nanghihinayang sila.”

She also stressed that, contrary to public opinions, she and Padilla never lied about their marriage.

She further shared that she has no regrets about marrying Padilla. At this point, she believes that the overwhelming love and happiness that they have for each other would help them surpass the hurdles along the way.

When it comes to their future plans, Rodriguez said she and Padilla, who is 14 years her senior, want to have kids "but not anytime soon."

“We have talked about having kids. Maybe we’d like to have just one, but not anytime soon. Maybe 8 or 10 years from now. But he's the one... He always tells me... Oh, I’m going to cry... Because he's older, he tells me that he's [not going to be there to take care of me]. But yeah, it’s the only thing that makes me cry [with regard to our relationship].”

She confirmed that they are planning to have a Catholic wedding, but she refused to say the exact date yet.

“We’re talking about it but I want to say it kapag mas klaro na. Parang near na. Gugulatin ko na lang kayo ulit. Of course I am going to invite you guys. You’re going to be there. You promised me that you’ll be my bridesmaid. And my lolo can walk me down the aisle. I’m going to wear a gown... na ishe-share namin with everyone. Pero what happened in India, sa amin ‘yon. We don’t think naman na masama kami or anything. We just wanted to have something na sa amin lang ni Robin and ni God,” she stated.
